FinSimLab's own rating, based on usefulness, clarity, rigour, how current it is and what it adds to your learning. It is not a reader review score.

A reflection on how to spend money in a way that improves your life instead of serving to impress.

What is it about?

If The Psychology of Money was about how wealth is built, this Housel book is about how it is used. It covers envy, status, comparison with others and insecurity, and argues that spending well depends more on knowing yourself than on following rules. Like his previous book, it is short chapters and stories, not a budget or a method.

What does it give you?

Is it for you?

People whose finances are in order and who wonder how to use money without guilt or waste.

When to read it: Build. You want to sort out your finances and build a base.

Where does it apply?

Universal. Its ideas do not depend on the laws, taxes or products of a particular country.

Concepts it covers

Mindful spending, What money is for, Financial behaviour

What does it not give you?

How does it explain it?

An essay in short chapters built on real stories, in the same tone as The Psychology of Money. (Essay, Narrative)

What does it add?

It fills the gap that was missing: what to do with money once you have it, from behaviour rather than a spending rule.
